Privacy Policy

I care about privacy! Here’s the lowdown on what info my website collects and what I do with it:

TL;DR
You should always read privacy policies in full, but basically I collect minimal technical data to improve the site, understand how people use the website and keep it secure. Other than to power third party features of the site, the information is never shared, unless Australian law requires me to supply it.

What I collect

  • Basic technical stuff: Like your IP address, what type of device you’re using, which pages you visit and how you use the pages.
  • Information and content you provide: Such as your email address, name and the content you upload.
  • Cookies: I use cookies from Google Analytics to analyse website traffic and understand how visitors use my site. These cookies may be session cookies (which expire when you close your browser) or persistent cookies (which remain on your device for a set period). You can find out more information about Google Analytics’ cookies and privacy practices.
  • Login attempts: If someone tries to log in to my website (even if they fail), I may record their IP address and other details to help keep my site secure. This information may be compared to security databases to protect against malicious activity.

What I do with it

  • Keep things running: I use the info to make sure the website works well and to see how people are using it. See below Third party applications.
  • Answer your questions: If you get in touch, I’ll use your info to get back to you.
  • Display comments: Information supplied for the purpose of a comment will be shown at the bottom of posts.
  • Follow the rules: I’ll only share your info if the law requires it. Since both myself and the website server are in Australia, Australian law will generally apply. However, in some situations, I might need to respond to information requests from other countries if required by Australian law.

Things I think you should know

  • Third party applications: I use a range of third party applications to help run my website. They may collect or have access to certain information. Each one has its own privacy policy, so it’s a good idea to check those out. Built With will be the most accurate summary of all detected technologies.
  • No marketing: I don’t use your info for marketing or anything like that, unless you explicitly sign up for a newsletter.
  • HTTPS: I’ve configured this site to always use a secure HTTPS connection. This helps protect your information as it travels between your computer and my website.

How long I keep information for

  • Not forever: The website is set up to retain website logs and login attempt records for an indefinite period. However, this data will likely be periodically deleted to free up server space and prevent the unnecessary storage of large amounts of log information.
  • Until you remove it: Content provided will be retained until such a time as you choose to delete it.

How secure the website is

  • As safe as can be: Technology has been implemented to try and keep the website safe from hackers and malware, but no website can be 100% secure.
  • But: If something bad happens and information gets stolen or leaked, I’ll:
    • Fix the problem and try to stop it from happening again.
    • Find out what happened and who was affected.
    • Make reasonable attempts to let you know if your information was involved.
    • Tell the Australian Government (that’s the law!).
  • Low risk: Given the limited nature of the information collected, any data breach is likely to have minimal consequence, if any.

How you can ask me about your privacy

  • Just reach out: If you have any concerns about your privacy, please don’t hesitate to contact me on any of the platforms linked on the homepage.
